David James Buick

January 14, 1961 — March 8, 2025

Listen to Obituary
David James Buick of Severance, Colorado went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ the morning of March 8, 2025, in Fort Collins, Colorado after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Dave is survived by his wife Melissa Haussermann Buick, daughters Kristen Ann Carvalho (Joshua) and Brittany Lynn Buick (Will Muessel), and his most cherished grandchildren, Blake Carvalho and Cassidy Carvalho; Aunt, Judy Anderson (Norm), cousins and was preceded in death by his parents and sister Margaret Elizabeth (Peggy) Buick. Dave was born to Donald John Buick and Betty Lou Buick (Sherman), January 14, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois and lived his life passionately.

Dave was a self-described simple man who loved Jesus, loved his family, his dog Major, his Harley Davidson, listening to Mac Powell, and sneaking way too close to the wildlife for a perfect picture – pretty sure in that exact order. Dave always brought the laughter to his home by making awful jokes, impersonating Bob Dylan, harassing his children, or being the "tickle monster" to his grandchildren. In between these mostly all-consuming pursuits, he had a few other hobbies.

Dave loved riding his Harley on Iron Mountain Road in South Dakota with his wife and would often talk about how much fun they had riding those 17 miles, 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, 3 pigtails, 3 tunnels, 2 splits, and 4 presidents. His highlight of the time he was sick was what he and Melissa call their "miracle trip" to South Dakota in August of 2022. Dave spent an inordinate amount of time researching, testing, accessorizing, modifying and reading about the tools of his trade and for each hobby he chose to pursue. His fastidious care of his things showed the deep care that he put into everything that he did and his relentless pursuit of greatness showed up in everything that he touched. Later in life, Dave moved on to cameras where he spent hours traipsing around Rocky Mountain National Park in pursuit of the perfect capture. His family is grateful to have their walls full of his beautiful work. Melissa is less grateful for the times that he led her all over tarnation and hiked her dangerously close to bull elk and moose in the middle of the Rut.

Dave always said he would have preferred to spend time with a few good friends rather than many people he didn't really know. He enjoyed the near decade he spent working with Randy and Di Pennington and the crew at Mile High. He loved the good people that he met through his many hobbies and was especially thankful for the long afternoons he spent with John Rudd. A celebration of life will be held at The Genesis Project 400 S. Link Lane, Fort Collins, CO at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 30th with a reception to follow.

For Dave's sake, we'll keep this short and sweet, he never did like being the center of attention. He'd also be laughing at how little time it took for every room of his house to be full of flowers. Donations can be made to Colorado Youth Outdoors, ColoradoYouthOutdoors.org.
