David Allen Bondhus, 54, a Fort Collins native, passed unexpectedly in his sleep Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Born August 11, 1954, to J. Merlin Bondhus and Dorothy June Bondhus, he was the youngest of their four children. David attended school in Fort Collins Putnum elementary, Blevins junior high and Poudre high school. Subsequently he worked in both residential and commercial construction and remodel throughout Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska, as a framer, rock hanger, painter and tile installer. David was a gentle spirit and friend to all. He was kind-hearted and always willing to help those in need, though his needs were easily met. He most appreciated family gatherings and get-togethers with his friends from all across the U.S. His greatest pride was in his nieces, Candy Bradley, Shawna Johnson, Summer Legendre, Vanessa Bondhus and Kevin Miller; his nephew, Garrett Miller; and grand-nephew, Grant Legendre. In addition, he enjoyed archery, all types of music, playing guitar and Native American history. David least appreciated haircuts. He enjoyed life to the fullest. David was preceded in death by his father, J. Merlin Bondhus. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy June Bondhus; brothers, Tom Bondhus Janie, John Bondhus Gail; his sister, Beverly Miller Dale; all of Fort Collins, as well as his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held, 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be to the Food Bank for Larimer County or Catholic Charities Fort Collins in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
