David W. Armstrong, 82, passed away on March 31, 2018. He was born on June 3, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI to Robert and Gladys Armstrong. He later moved to Sioux Falls, SD and married the love of his life, Kay, in 1957. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1959 with a degree in accounting after serving two years in the Army. Dave began his 43-year banking career with Northwestern National Bank in Sioux Falls, Gregory and Madison, SD. After moving to Fort Collins in 1969, he worked for First National bank for nine years. Dave then took a position in Boulder as president and chief executive officer of Boulder National Bank. He returned to Fort Collins in 1983 and worked for United Bank, Key Bank, Century Bank and Centennial Bank of the West until his retirement in 2002.
Dave was a former trustee and very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church for nearly 50 years. He was very committed to the community serving on committees and boards of numerous organizations which included: Fort Collins Symphony, Sertoma Club, Poudre Valley Hospital, Fort Collins Foundation, Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, United Way, CSU Business Advisory Council, Junior Achievement, Library Trust, National American Gas Association, and CSU Ram Booster Club. He was a very proud Ram fan until the end.
Dave's many hobbies included traveling, working out at the Fort Collins Club, fishing, bicycling, tennis, hiking, skiing, canoeing, white water river rafting, windsurfing, racquetball, and an occasional bad game of golf!
Dave is survived by his wife, Kay; three children, Jeff Armstrong (Susan), Julie Townsend (Rick) and Kristi Hawkins (Kevin); 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. His love for life was evident by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Stuart St., Fort Collins at 11:00 am on Friday, April 20, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado, 80524.
