Darlene Rea Rae died at her home in Loveland, on August 6, 2014. She was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on January 16, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Edna Eller Houdesheldt, her brother, Forrest Houdesheldt, sister, Helen Morgan and ex-husband, Rob Whited. After graduating form Fort Collins High School in 1955, she moved to California. She married Rob Whited. While raising their three sons, Robert, Mitchel and Kip she worked for the State of California and received her Teaching Credentials in food service and worked with handicapped children. She also worked for the Sheriff Department and at the Marine Base. After 18 years in California she returned to Fort Collins to help with the care of her parents. She then worked at a home for the handicapped. After her mother passed away, she started elder care in their homes for people with Alzheimer. When her own health deteriorated, she retired. Darlene was a member of Fort Collins Bible Church. She was active at the Chilson Center, and belonged to the Golden Age Card Club. She made new friends at her home at Big Thompson Manor and kept in touch with old friends all over the United States. She is survived by her three sons and six grandchildren. A Memorial Ceremony will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Soderberg Open Space, by Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins. Directions: Go West on Harmony Road, continue around the Reservoir, to Shoreline Dr. turn right, go past the marina, past the Soderberg parking lot, on the left about two blocks. Or stop at the Canyon Bar & Grill parking lot after 9:15, and someone will lead you to the open space. IMPORTANT! This is an open space. You need to bring an umbrella, or hat, a chair, and WATER. There will be someone to help carry your chair up the gravel road. It is about a 1/4 block
