Darlene Kiefer

July 13, 1939 — October 22, 2017

Listen to Obituary
Darlene Mae Kiefer of Fort Collins, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away October 22, 2017.

She was born on July 13, 1939 to Clement Peatrowsky and Ida Ortmeier. Darlene grew up with six brothers and sisters on a farm in West Point, Nebraska. They all have stories of the many antics with the cows, chickens and each other. Just ask them!

Darlene was married to Edward Kiefer on February 16, 1958 in Fort Collins at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church.

Their first daughter, Karen, was born on November 19, 1958. Their second daughter, Rita, was born on September 28, 1959. Their son, Michael, was born on April 10, 1967.

Darlene's love of books drew her to working in her children's school libraries and later a bookstore. She was able to share paperback books with many friends and family from the bookstore during those years since she was allowed to take them after the front cover was removed for inventory.

She volunteered at local nursing homes and brought comfort to many of the elderly through the years.

Darlene loved picnics and hikes in the mountains and spent lots of time taking walks with friends and family.

She was the best cook in the whole world, according to her family. And to this day they haven't found anyone who could make an apple pie as good as hers.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward; her daughter, Rita; her son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Brandy; son-in-law, Jim; granddaughter, Jessica; granddaughter, Rebecca; great grandchildren Blake and Kadence. She was proceeded in death by daughter Karen.
