Darla Marie Sandage, 46, youngest daughter of George and Marian Sandage, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on November 30, 2017.
Although Darla struggled with metastatic pancreatic cancer for months, her main concern was that her family not be hurt by her passing. Her secondary concern was that we not make a big deal after she left, "just a simple service, no cutesy stuff" is what Darla specified.
She was our mountain girl; finding peace in nature by hiking, skiing and traveling. Darla would steal away for a weekend to see New York, Arizona, Nevada and the beauty of Utah. Upon the death of her oldest nephew, Sean Austin in 1991, Darla climbed Long's Peak in his name.
In her last weeks on this earth Darla enjoyed spending time talking, laughing and loving her siblings: Bill Sandage (Judy), Donna Giuliano (Gene) and Debra Austin (Byron).
Darla adored her niece Angie Giuliano and nephews Bill Sandage Jr, Ryan Austin, Jason Giuliano, Thom Sandage (Audra), Steve Giuliano (Wendy), Devin Austin (Cate) and Damon Austin (Jessica). She was also blessed with grand nephews Taylor, Shaun and Jameson, as well as grand nieces Paige and Addison.
Special thanks to the staff at Pathways Hospice who made this experience so much simpler and more meaningful for all of us.
May God bless Father Joe Hartman for visiting Darla and sharing in this journey with her.
