Daniel J. Livinghouse of Fort Collins, CO died December 6, 2015. A Memorial Service-
Celebration of Life will be held in March 2016, (date TBA), at Bohlender Funeral Chapel,
121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO.

Dan Livinghouse was born on October 9,1926 in Hamlet, Indiana, son of John C.
Livinghouse and Ada Ethel (Fink) Livinghouse. He married Margot Jaesche on
November 27, 1948 in Bad Kissingen, Germany. They were married 63 years.
He graduated from West High School, Plymouth, Indiana on May 3, 1944. He later
attended the University of South Carolina (Greenville), the Air University, Maxwell AFB,
Alabama, and several service schools including flying training. He entered the service
on January 20,1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, and served in the Army Infantry, Army
Air Corps, and the USAF, as an enlisted man. He served in the Occupation Forces in
Germany and participated in the Berlin Airlift. After he returned to the United States in
December 1948, he served in the Regular USAF as a Technical Sergeant until he was
commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in July 1950. He retired on June 30, 1970, as a
Lt. Colonel, after more than 25 years on active duty.

Colonel Livinghouse served most of his officer career in Tactical Air Command as a
navigator in Tactical Airlift Units, flying C-119, C-123, and C-130 aircraft. In addition to
his flying duties, Colonel Livinghouse held many staff positions at Squadron, Base,
Wing, and Numbered Air Force levels as Adjutant, Personnel Officer, Operations
Training Officer, Plans Officer, Instructor Navigator, and Flight Examiner, culminating in
the position of Deputy Director Tactical Evaluation at Headquarters, 12th Air Force. He
attained the highest Navigator rating as Master Navigator. In all, he either trained in,
was an integral crew member of, or performed Flight Examiner duties in twelve different
types of aircraft.

He served overseas in Europe, Okinawa, and Vietnam. In Vietnam he flew both C-123
and C-130 aircraft on 127 combat missions.

During his career he served during WWII, Korean, and Vietnam wars and participated
in several military emergency actions between the wars. he received 24 awards and
decorations including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, several
campaign medals, and various citations including a Presidential Unit citation. He also
received the Medal for Humane Actions for his Berlin airlift participation.

Colonel Livinghouse lived in Fort Collins since August, 1970. He was a Realtor for
about three years and then worked in the County Assessor's office for 15 years, the last
9 years as the Senior Deputy Assessor.

He was a life member in the VFW, American Legion, Air Force Association, and the
Military Officers Association. He belonged to the Model T Club of America, the Model A
Club of America, and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He enjoyed restoring and
driving antique cars, mostly Ford Model T's, Model A's, and Plymouths. He participated
in many tours, parades, car shows, and visits to several nursing homes giving rides to
the residents.

As a father he enjoyed taking his five children on excursions to historic sites, state and
national parks, the mountains, and the coast. He also took his children camping and
fishing, and to baseball and football games. He was umpire for Little League baseball
for several years. With five children he attended many school programs and often
treated them with ice cream sundaes for a job well done. From the example he set, his
children and grandchildren learned the value of hard work, service, charity for others,
care of family, love of adventure, and no matter how far they ventured, to always come
home.

Survivors include son Kenneth Livinghouse of Fort Collins; daughter Crystal Bollman,
son-in-law Mark Bollman of Wellington; daughter Holly Giardina, son-in-law David
Giardina of Las Vegas,NV; daughter Linda Livinghouse of Fort Collins; son David
Livinghouse of Fort Collins, ex daughter-in-law Debbie Livinghouse; grandsons Jeffrey
Bollman, Andrew Bollman, Daniel Lee Livinghouse; and granddaughter Hannah
Giardina. Sisters Doris Dickson of Plymouth, Indiana; and Betty Lacher, of Bremen,
Indiana.

Preceding Daniel in death were his wife Margot; his parents; brothers Lawrence, Roy,
and John; sisters Lillian, Evelyn, Pauline, and Frances; and his mother-in-law, Gertrud.

Colonel Livinghouse has been cremated. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Grandview Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Club Tico, 1599 City Park Dr. He will be buried in the same site as his wife, Margot Jaesche Livinghouse and mother-in-law, Gertrud Jaesche.
