Daniel Victor Hurd

Daniel Victor Hurd, 85, died on March 2, 2016 in his home town of Fort Collins, Colorado. He lost his beloved wife Patty on October 6, 2015.

Born on November 29, 1930 to Clarence and Gladys Hurd in Plateau City, Colorado, he was the third of four children, three girls and a boy. The Hurds moved to Grand Junction, Colorado when Dan was young and he grew up there. In fourth grade he met Patty June Slinkard. They married after high school on September 9, 1950 and spent 65 years together in marriage and friendship.
After graduation from Mesa College and Colorado State College Dan taught at Grand Junction junior and senior high schools. After earning a masters degree in counseling at Arizona State University he joined a team of educators in 1964 in opening a new high school in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dan served as a Counselor at that school, Poudre High School, until he retired in 1985. He loved helping young people be the best they could be.

Dan raised his children with the same strong gentleness that helped him counsel thousands of young people. He was a kind and generous man. He was an amazing athlete – a champion swimmer, and a fast, fearless halfback. He could drive a golf ball a straight country mile, and his short game was good enough to get a hole-in-one on the City Park ninth hole. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He loved Patty June Hurd more than anything in the world.

Dan is survived by three children, eight grand children and seven great grand children.
Dan and Patty's son Doug and his wife Barbara live in Charlottesville, Virginia. Their son Daniel Hurd, his wife Molly and their sons Samuel and Benjamin live in Boston, Massachusetts. Their daughter Emma Moffett, her husband Richard and their son Jackson live in Sterling, Virginia.
Dan and Patty's daughter Cindy Pault and her husband Jerry live in Fort Collins, Colorado. Their daughter Jessica Pault-Atiase, her husband Salasee and their daughter Yletivi live in Boulder, Colorado. Their daughter Jordan Pault-Babeon, her husband Daniel, their daughter Cameron and their son Colt live in Boulder, Colorado. Their son Jacob Pault, his wife Susan and their son Kash live in Windsor, Colorado. Their daughter Annie Pault lives in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Dan and Patty's daughter Dani Andrews and her husband Rick live in Parker, Colorado. Their son Taylor lives in Denver, Colorado. Their daughter Jennifer lives in Denver, Colorado.

Dan is survived by his younger sister Marlene Hurd of Grand Junction, Colorado, and by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Dan is predeceased by his older sisters Hazel Belle Hurd and Ruthie Corey.
There will be a ceremony at the Collindale Golf Course Clubhouse (C. B. Potts) on March 13, 2016 from 3-6pm.
