Curtis Carl Petersen passed away on August 26th, 2020 in Fort Collins, CO. He was born October, 22 1962 in Oskaloosa, Iowa; which Curt always believed as a child was a different country. He spent most of his life here in Fort Collins but enjoyed the many family vacations to ski in Breckenridge and stay at the family condo. Curt graduated from Fort Collins High School and moved to Grand Junction so he could attend Mesa State University and play football. He cheered on the Washington Red Skins and was often styled as a Native Chief by his sister who ran the family costume shop. Upon completing college, he returned to Fort Collins and worked as a General Contractor with the family construction business for many years. Curt spent the last 14 years of his contracting career working for Columbine Health Systems.
Curtis always appeared to be larger than life with his great sense of humor, booming laugh, and gigantic bear hugs. He will always be remembered for his immense generosity with friends and family, and even people he barely knew. Curtis loved celebrating the 4th of July with a pig roast and horseshoes. He enjoyed fishing with his father, his cousin Brad, and longtime buddy Todd all throughout Colorado. In his spare time, he liked to golf and planned to travel to Denmark to visit his family's homestead.
Curt is survived by his mother, Carol of Fort Collins, CO; his sister Lori Malan Evans, CO; nephews: Michael Malan and Matthew Malan of Fort Collins, CO; niece Lachelle Dugan of Wellington, CO; and great-nieces: Emery, Kaelin and Jamie Grace. Curt was blessed with a large extended family and was preceded in death by his father: Carl, sister: Gale, and many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
