Col. retired Theodore R. Roth Ted formerly of Fort Collins, died Aug. 30, 2006 in Tucson, Ariz. A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., with full military honors. Col. Roth was born Sept. 29, 1919, in Gardiner, N.Y. He entered the U.S. Army in May 1941 and retired in Sept. 1976, with over 32 years of active service. He served during three wars, in the Philippines during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, as well as two tours in Europe. Among his many decorations are the Combat Infantryman Badge, The Legion of Merit with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Service Commendation Medal and Armed Forces Honor Medal, First Class. He holds diplomas from the Command and General Staff College, Armed Forces Staff College and the U.S. Army War College where he served on the faculty. He has a BS in Psychology and a MS in counseling. Colonel RothGÇÖs last military assignment was as Professor of Military Science at Colorado State University for the period 1971-1976. He established and maintained an outstanding Army ROTC program which produced distinguished cadets. While at Colorado State University he was the first military person to be President of the Faculty Club and the MenGÇÖs Science Club. After retirement from the Army, Mr. Roth went into the real estate business and worked as salesman, sales manager and broker. He was sales manager at Realty Brokers Exchange and Dillon-Vaughan-Walters real estate. He was a director for the Fort Collins Board of Realtors and also a Colorado Association of Realtors director. He held the national designation of Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager CRB, one of the few in Fort Collins at that time. He was also a graduate of the Colorado Graduate Realtors Institute with a DRI designation. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain CRB chapter, and served as a CRB Ambassador for the National Association of Realtors. He also held a brokers license in Arizona where he worked for Richmond Homes. Colonel Roth was a former member of the noon Kiwanis Club and the Elks Lodge. He was a world traveler. In addition to his military assignments overseas, he made six international golf tours to Scotland and Ireland; Spain and Morocco; the French Riviera; Australia and New Zealand; five Caribbean Islands and South Africa. He made a tour of the former USSR with a group of faculty from the University of Colorado, including Leningrad now St. Petersburg, Yalta, Kiev, Moscow and Dushanbe the sister city of Boulder. He made numerous cruises including the Panama Canal, the eastern and western Caribbean, and Alaska. He made an extensive tour of the Balkans visiting Italy, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Austria. His trip to Scandinavia included Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway. One of his most recent trips was to London and Paris via the Chunnel. Colonel Roth visited most of the countries in Europe and most of the worldGÇÖs capitals. He completed a cruise of the eastern Caribbean with his wife and three granddaughters, and most recently went on a Caribbean cruise with his daughter Barbara, son-in-law, and two grandchildren and also a cruise of the Mexican Riviera with his daughter Nanci. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and reader, and he lived life to its fullest. Col. then Lt. Roth married Joyce Nichols of Ottawa, Canada on Jan. 8, 1944, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary before her passing on Sept. 5, 2004. Survivors include daughters, Judith Krile of Little Rock, Ark., Valerie Shereck of Colorado Springs, Nanci Roth of Rapid City, S.D., and Dr. Barbara Roth Shugert of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sons-in GÇôlaw; six grandchildren and one greatGÇôgrandchild.
