Claude Barella passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Claude was born in Denver on Feb. 7, 1948, and graduated from Poudre High School in 1968. After graduating from high school, Claude attended American Beauty School in Fort Collins. Claude was in the military and did a 13-month tour of duty in Vietnam. Claude was awarded three purple hearts, a bronze star and was in the Special Forces unit of the Army. He was employed by Poudre Valley REA for 28 years and retired June 2, 2005. Claude enjoyed fishing, hiking, hunting, gold panning, treasure hunting and horseshoes. Claude won several trophies in horseshoes. Claude was a big collector of stamps, music, rocks and coins. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Barella; daughter, Linda Star Barella, and James Alan Barella; grandson, Elijah Talbat; mother, Viola Barella; brothers, Tony Barella, Mel Barella, Ed Barella, Dale Barella, Frank Barella, Toby Barella and Mark Barella; sister, Louise Barella; and several nieces, nephews and godchildren. Claude was preceded in death by his father, Tony Joseph Barella and grandson, Dominic James Barella. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Annunciation Chapel, Highway 1 and County Road 56, Fort Collins. Interment with military honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Those who desire may view Claude from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
