Clara Weber Whiteman, age 79, of Ft. Collins passed away September 17, 2010, at Poudre Valley Hospital; she was surrounded by the presence and love of her family. Clara was born December 20, 1930, in Topeka, Kansas, the fifth child of John W. Weber and Katherine Domme Weber. She was a graduate of Topeka High School, class of 1949. She met Dean Whiteman at the dime store where she worked and they married in 1950. Clara worked for Kansas Light & Power when they started their family in Topeka, until they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1954. They later moved to Ft. Collins in 1963 where Dean opened his first King's Food Host restaurant with the support of Clara, both behind the scenes and in the dining room. They were married for 31 years and raised four children in that time. After her restaurant career, she held a few other retail positions, but her greatest achievements came from being a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by three sons; Gery Whiteman Sue of Ft. Collins; Ron Whiteman Terri of Wheatridge; Scott Whiteman Colleen of Steamboat Springs; one daughter, Barbara Whiteman Fulton Darren of Arvada; two grandchildren, Collin and Emma Fulton; one sister, Letty Thompson of Topeka, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her caring, genuine nature, easy smile, and warmth. A private memorial will be held by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Topeka High School Historical Society Restoration Fund in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
