Chester Darrell Payton passed away October 9, 2009 at his home in Laporte, Colorado. Chester was born August 21, 1931 to Mont and Mary Jordan Payton in Scraper, Oklahoma. He moved with his family to Fort Collins in 1950. On May 20, 1952, he married Marjorie Mae Christopher, and they had 4 children. Michael Payton Kay of Fort Collins, Darrell Payton, deceased, Donna Swartout Bill of Santa Rosa, California, and Terry Payton of Arvada, Colorado. He and Marjorie divorced in 1958. On April 5, 1959, Chester married Evelyn Norma Stringham Pierce, and they were married until her death on May 3, 2008. Chester and Evelyn lived in California from 1959 until 1966. He had 2 step children from his marriage to Evelyn, Thomas Pierce and Patricia Snelling. Chester worked for Larimer County Road and Bridge department for 30 years until his retirement. Chester enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing with his brothers and friends. He also liked to garden and work in his yard. Chester loved music and played the guitar. Chester is survived by his twin brother, Lester Payton of Fort Collins, brother Jim Sharon of Fort Collins, and a sister Dorothy Swackhammer of Waldron, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 19 step great-grandchildren and 4 step great-great grandchildren. Chester was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, sister Beulah, brothers Bobby, Charles and Rufus Lee, 1 son, 1 granddaughter, 1 step son and 1 step daughter. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place.
