Charlotte Duling

Charlotte Nadine Duling Curtis, 74, of Loveland, died Jan. 15, 2008, from lung cancer. She was born Jan. 24, 1933, to Floyd and Delta Curtis and was raised on a farm near Roosevelt, Okla. She graduated from Consolidated No. 8 High School in 1951. She married Doris Ray Taylor in May 1951 and lived in Weed, Calif., until 1965. They had three children. Charlotte and Ray divorced in 1965. She later married Howard Duling and they operated motels in Hilo, Hawaii, from 1968 to 1972 and Lake Havasu, Ariz., from 1972 to 1975, then ran a restaurant in Aptos, Calif., from 1975 to 1980. They moved to Fort Collins in 1980. In 1986 they opened the Green Pepper Restaurant on 310 W. Prospect St. and operated it until retirement in 1993. Howard died in 1988. Charlotte is survived by son, Danny Taylor; and daughters, Pamela and Karen Taylor, all of whom live near Modesto, Calif. Surviving siblings include five Curtis brothers, Byrd in Fort Collins, Jerry in Loveland, and Ray in Aurora, Udell in Muskogee, Okla., and Junior in Tyler, Texas. Surviving sisters are Dorothy Holman in Aurora, Eva Evans in Elgin, Okla., and Melba Harken in Tyler, Texas. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents and an older sister, Bobbye Smith. Families and friends will hold a celebration of Charlotte's life at 3 p.m. today at the VFW, 603 Lesser Drive, Fort Collins. Contributions can be made to Hospice of Larimer County.
