Charles W. CHUCK Hoffman was born Dec. 31 1936 to Walter and Maxine Hoffman. He died peacefully at home Sept. 3, 2010. A Memorial Service will be held at the Fort Collins Bible Church, 2525 S. Taft Hill Rd. on Fri. at 2:00 p.m. Chuck was a 2nd generation native and lifelong resident of Fort Collins. Chuck attended Washington Elementary, Lincoln Jr. High, and Fort Collins High School.
He married Patricia Anne Cummings July 2, 1955. He worked in the Experimental Plane Division of Convair, a Division of General Dynamics, Silvair Aircraft, and Woodward Governor from 1956-1959 He served in the Army Reserves from 1955 - 1961 It was with great pride and honor that he served as a patrolman for the Fort Collins Police Department from 1959 - 1967. In 1961- 1963 he started his own trucking company, hauling sand and gravel, grain, and pipe. He purchased a new Mack truck off the "show room floor" and is proud that this truck is still in service in Ft. Collins with over 4 million miles. In 1967 in addition to his Police work he began construction of Skyline Mobile Park. His vision of a quality place to live, geared toward families and older folks. His vision conflicted with local officials which ended his service to the City but left a legacy of a great place for people to live. He began trucking again, moving mobile homes, and modulars, and had a sales lot for new homes. Also for a couple of years adding school bus driver to his resume, as well as his own trash pickup company. In 1989 he bought a new Mack dump truck and worked locally for Western Mobile / La Farge, and the City of Fort Collins Streets Dept. He loved his Big Mack, keeping it in show room shape. Through the years from High School to the present he built, restored, painted, and otherwise tinkered on every kind and age of automobile, truck, and race car you can imagine. He drag raced and later raced modified stock cars when he was younger, at local race tracks.
While he loved his cars and trucks the biggest joy in his life were his grandchildren. His heart was broken when he lost his daughter, Kathy Kay Hoffman to cancer at the age of 2 1/2 in 1961. They are together in heaven rejoicing with Jesus. Chuck is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pat Hoffman; son, Charles Spike Hoffman, and his wife, Kim; and three grandchildren, Kaily Janelle Hoffman, Cassandra Shea Hoffman, and Spencer Jarrett Hoffman.
