Carolee Russ of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away suddenly and peacefully on October 31, 2015, Halloween Day, at her home after a prolonged battle with cancer. Ironically her passing occurred on Halloween, a favorite day of Carolee's late mother, herself and daughter Alison.
Carolee was born in El Paso, Texas to Lee and Alice Dumont Floyd on October 19, 1945. In 1946 Carolee and her mother joined her father in Pensacola, Florida. After being discharged from the Navy the Floyd family moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1949. In 1954 the Floyd's moved back to El Paso, Texas, the time at which Carolee considered her formative years. In 1962 the Floyd's returned to Hattiesburg, Mississippi where Carolee graduated from Hattiesburg High in 1963. She then attended University of Southern Mississippi where she was an active member of Delta-Delta-Delta sorority and graduated in 1967 with a degree in Education. After graduation, Carolee moved to the Cape Canaveral, Florida area to start her teaching career. In 1969 Carolee moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she continued her teaching career.
In 1973, Carolee married Joe Russ at the Saint Joseph Mission Mescalero, NM on the Mescalero Apache Reservation, a church that her father Lee Floyd and uncle Jack Floyd helped build. In 1976 Alison Leigh was born to Joe and Carolee. In 2002 Joe and Carolee moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, their present home.
Carolee enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and abroad with Joe and close friends. She also loved reading, eating out with Joe, family and friends.
Carolee is preceded in death by her great-grand parents Edward and Sarah Floyd (a pioneer family in the Denver area and namesake of Floyd Hill) of Denver, CO; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Leo Paul Floyd of El Paso, TX; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Dumont of Charleston, WV and parents Lee and Alice Floyd of Hattiesburg, MS. She is survived by her sister Sally Logan (Craig) of Hattiesburg, MS; brother Tim Floyd (Beverly) of El Paso, TX; husband Joe Russ of Fort Collins, CO and daughter Alison Reed (Nathan) and granddaughters Addison (5) and Finley (3) of Denver, CO.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 9, 2015 at 2:30 pm at the Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins, CO followed by a Life Celebration for family and friends at the Ptarmigan Country Club, Club House. Interment will be a family affair.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Carolee Russ's name.
