We are saddened to announce the passing of Carol Jankunas-Duggan of Fort Collins, Colorado on Friday, November 10th after a series of illnesses. Born on February 25, 1943, in Amsterdam, New York, the daughter of Violet Svedarckas Jankunas and Benjamin J. Jankunas. A 1960 graduate of St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam, N.Y. and the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y., she taught 5th grade classes in Fonda, N.Y. as well as in Aurora, CO. After 10+ years of teaching she also worked at a variety of jobs including secretary at ITT Semiconductors, writer for two Colorado newspapers and local newsletters and receptionist for several mental health centers and then opened several small thrift stores.
Carol was an avid writer of stories and poems, photographer of her beloved mountains and loved traveling to National Parks. Gardening and her animal companions were her other passions.
She married her soulmate Dennis Duggan in 1988 and they dubbed themselves "The Fun Couple" with much laughter and gratitude for their 35 years together. Carol's later years were challenging with health issues, but she lived boldly and loved life on her own terms with no regrets.
She is survived by her beloved husband Dennis, her sister Christine Andrzejczyk and husband Karl of Amsterdam, N.Y., son Michael B. Jankunas of Phoenix, AZ., grandson Blake Jankunas and his mom Erika Maxwell, "granddaughter" Brenna Stewart and many lifelong friends.
