Carl A. Houkom, 83, of Ft. Collins, died May 8, 2013 at his residence. Carl was born May 23, 1929 in Fargo, North Dakota to Carl I. Houkom and Goldie Ilene Barnes Houkom. Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and recently was on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He married Edris E. Miller on November 19, 1950. They lived and raised their family on a farm west of West Fargo, North Dakota. They moved from the farm to Fargo, North Dakota in 1980 and then to Colorado in 1986. Carl enjoyed gardening, traveling, and serving at his church. Survivors include his five children, Everin and wife, Sue of Park Falls, WI, Cindy Kampen of Ft. Collins, Randy and wife, Teresa Houkom of Fargo, Roxanne and husband, Terance West of Moorhead, MN and Rick Houkom of Fargo; two brothers, Irvin and Robert Houkom; three sisters, Helen Forbes, Peggy Haakenson, and Patty Byers; 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding Carl in death are his wife, Edris; his parents; a son, Jeffrey; and one brother. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 23, 1 p.m. at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920 So Shields St. Contributions may be made to the Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Fund, in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
