Carl Scott "Tiger" Hobbs, 57, of Loveland. A Celebration of Carl's Life will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 6:00 pm at Charlie L's Pub, 271 14th St SE, Loveland (musicians bring your instruments to join in) and on June 6th at 3:00 pm at VFW 4051 Pikes Peak Post (downstairs), 430 E. Pikes Peak Ave, Colorado Springs. Inurnment at Lakeside Cemetery, Canon City, Monday June 8th, with his mother, Wilma E. Hobbs. Time TBD.
Carl Scott "Tiger" Hobbs, 57, of Loveland, CO, passed away unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm at his home on February 21, 2015. While he had been employed as a security officer for SOS Security assigned to Water Pik until December 2014, his passion was music. He has played with some local bands but recently just jammed with friends. He preferred rock 'n roll but played a wide variety of music using several instruments including piano, keyboard, guitar and bass guitar. He was also a certified dog groomer and had worked as a cook and custodian.
Carl was born Roger Gene Lake in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on May 29, 1957, the son of Gene Allison Lake and Wilma Ella (French) Lake. "Tiger" received his family nickname from his grandfather, Franklin "Chub" Maytubby, just after he came home from the hospital when the baby grabbed his finger and Chub said he is a little "Tiger". After his parents divorced in 1959, and his mother remarried (Wilma E. Hobbs), he was adopted by Harold Carl Hobbs, PhD and renamed Carl Scott Hobbs. Carl attended Black Forest Elementary, Air Academy Junior High, Air Academy High while living in Black Forest, Colorado, and Florence High while living in Florence, Colorado. He later completed his GED. He married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Montoya, and had a son, Gene Scott Montoya. They were divorced in 1991. Carl moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 2001, then to Loveland, Colorado in 2010.
Carl is survived by his son, Gene Scott Montoya of Florence; his father, Gene (Bea) Lake of Florence; his step-grandmother, June George of Colorado Springs; his sister, Nila Hobbs of Fort Collins; his brothers, Del Hobbs (Linda Purdum) of Denver, Kris Hobbs and Alan Hobbs of Tucson, AZ; half-brothers, Jay Dee (Stacy) Lake of Spokane, Washington, Marvin Lake of Denver; step-sisters, Janice Hobbs (Bob Hays) of Torrington, WY and Jacqueline Hobbs; uncles, Roger Lake, Arizona, Jerry French, Texas, and aunt, Dorothy (French) Knight of North Carolina, as well as nieces, nephews and grand nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma E. Hobbs, adoptive father, Harold Carl Hobbs, PhD, step-brother Harold Carl Hobbs II and grandparents George and Nila (Allison) Lake, James and Alene (Hollingsworth) French, Franklin "Chub/Chief" Maytubby, Joe and Silva Baggett.
Two Celebrations of Carl's Life for family and friends will be scheduled in June, one in Loveland and one in Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to The Carl Scott Hobbs Memorial Fund (for use in aiding music for children in school) in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel 121 W.
