Burl Ray Young, 83, of Laporte, died Oct. 19, 2008. Mr. Young was born Aug. 2, 1925 in Fort Lupton, to George E. Young and Cleona L. Ryan Young. Burl served in the United States Army during World War II. He spent his life in Northern Colorado since 1966. He married Velma Lee Hodgson on February 13, 1943 in Bushnell, Neb. Burl loved the mountains, mules, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Rocky Mountain Long Ears Association. Survivors include his son, Pat M. Young and his wife, Chris of Fort Collins; a daughter, Ginger Lee Young of Laporte; three grandchildren, Pat M. Young, II and his wife Crystal of Loveland, Sharie Bland and husband Terry of Loveland, and Colleen Young of Laporte; and four great-grandchildren, Dalton and Wade Bland, and John Wayne and Rebecca Young. Preceding Burl in death are his parents; and his wife, Velma. A Graveside Service with Military Honors by the Fort Collins All Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
