Wilda May Woodward
June 20, 1917 ~ August 30, 2010 Wilda May Woodward, a longtime Fort Collins resident, died August 30, 2010 at home at the age of 93. She passed gently in her sleep. Wilda was born June 20, 1917 to parents John and Jessie Cook Pierce. She had two brothers, Orville and Homer. They lived on a homestead near Hudson Colorado until moving to Fort Collins. She attended Fort Collins High School, receiving her diploma in 1936. She attended Colorado A & M Colorado State University receiving her BS in Home Economics Education in 1940. She married Tom Ely of Fort Collins in 1941. They had one daughter, Sandra, in 1942. Tom Ely was killed in 1943 in a car-train crash near the intersection of Lake and College in Fort Collins. During the next three years she taught school first in Wellington then in Granada and finally in Fowler, Colorado. After World War II, she met Burdette "Woody" Woodward of Streator Illinois and subsequently married him August 3, 1947. They lived for a year in Streator then moved to Fort Collins where Woody worked for Poudre School District and Wilda taught school at Rocky Ridge School, then at Laporte Elementary School. She retired in 1972. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, Eastern Star, White Shrine, Homemakers of Larimer County, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Red Hat Society. She collected antiques and dolls from all the countries of the world. She was an avid Ram fan and has attended almost every CSU football game since the stadium was built. Survivors include daughters, Sandra Lance Remick of Honolulu and Mylamay Phil Tscheschke of Centennial; grandchildren , Thomas Remick of Colorado Springs, David Remick of Fishers, Indiana, Gary Remick of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Daniel Tscheschke of Centennial, Walter Tscheschke of Denver, and Theresa Tscheschke Erkan Gunal of Centennial; plus four great-grandchildren. Preceding Wilda in death are her parents, John and Jessie Pierce, brothers Homer and Orville Pierce.
A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins, 1005 Stover St. at 1:00 p.m. on September 17, 2010. Rev. Charles Schuster will officiate the service. A Reception will immediately follow the service in the Fellowship Hall. Graveside Service will immediately follow the reception at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First Methodist Church, 1005 Stover at Elizabeth, Fort Collins, CO 80521. Burdette Gary "Woody" Woodward June 15, 1915 ~ January 1, 2010 Burdette Gary "Woody" Woodward died Friday January 1, 2010 at the age of 94 at the University of Colorado Medical Center Fitzsimmons in Denver. He passed gently in his sleep. Woody was born June 15, 1915 in Streator, Illinois. He had three brothers and one sister. Woody was an Army Combat Engineer with 4 � years of combat duty during World War II. He participated in the amphibious invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Naples, Anzio and Marseille. After the war Woody visited his brother, Harry in Colorado and met Wilda May Pierce Ely who he subsequently courted and married on August 3, 1947 in Estes Park. Woody and Wilda have lived in Fort Collins since 1950. He worked for Poudre R-1 School District as a custodian for 33 years at both Dunn and Washington Elementary schools. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, and the Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughters. He is a member of the Masons, the York Rite, and the Shriners. Woody is an accomplished musician who played the piano, organ, drums, and ukulele. He has played in several musical groups in the Fort Collins & Loveland area. Survivors include his wife, Wilda; daughters Mylamay Phil Tscheschke of Centennial and Sandra Lance Remick of Honolulu; grandchildren , Thomas Remick of Colorado Springs, David Remick of Fishers, Indiana, Gary Remick of Golden Valley, Minnesota, Daniel Tscheschke and Walter Tscheschke of Denver, and Theresa Erkan Gunal of Los Angeles, plus four great grandchildren. Preceding Woody in death are his parents, Lester and Florence Woodward; sister, Clara; brothers, Jim, Harry, and Roy. A Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins, 1005 Stover St., on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Charles Schuster will officiate the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fort Collins All Veteran Honor Guard. A Reception will immediately follow the interment at First United Methodist Church.
