In his early years he lived in seven different States and Japan until he settled in Colorado. He went to Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from Colorado State University (CSU). While a young man in high school and college, he was a nationally ranked swimmer and was selected to attend the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He achieved collegiate All American status while swimming. Upon graduation from CSU in 1982, he started his own company in Fort Collins, becoming a successful designer and builder. He built numerous private dwellings, condominiums, town houses, and apartments in Fort Collins and surrounding communities. Bret was passionate about building quality and durability in all of his properties.
He is survived by his daughter Aubrey (Larimer) Bigelow, son-in-law Jon Bigelow, and son Evan Larimer, presently attending Texas Maritime Academy. He is also survived by his father (a Marine Corps Officer, retired), his mother (a devoted military wife), sister, Wendy Arpaia, and brother-in-law, Chris Arpaia, of Southlake, Texas, sister-in-law, Kathleen Larimer, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Bret was an avid Broncos fan, enjoyed skiing, surfing, golfing, scuba diving, motorcycle riding, the beach, and travel. The family is mourning the loss of a wonderful son, father, and all-around good guy. Our world is less absent his presence.
