Brendan Patrick Loughrey

June 26, 1982 — March 7, 2016

Listen to Obituary
Brendan Patrick Loughrey died Monday March 7, 2016 in Fort Collins, Colorado. With his passing, the world has become a little poorer.

Brendan was born in Towson, Maryland on June 26, 1982 to Barbara White Loughrey and Fina Sean Loughrey. He joined older brother, Liam John and almost from the minute he came home they became friends not just brothers. The two were inseparable. Three years later, little sister Caitlin arrived on the scene and Brendan relished his role as big brother.

Brendan added love and laughter to every situation and his kindness was boundless. As his sister said, "Brendan didn't just have friends; he had best friends." When anyone needed help, Brendan was there. Whether it was something small like shoveling snow (he complained about that, actually) or something immeasurable like nursing his grandmother through her final days (he never complained about that) we counted on him. All of us agree he gave the best hugs.
Brendan graduated from The Art Institute of Colorado with a degree in Media Arts and Animation. His fine artwork is unparalleled, but it is his graphic designs and most importantly his cartoon characters that touch us all and give friends and family comfort now. Everyone is welcome to visit Brendan's Facebook page or the Facebook pages of his favorite characters: Cashous Poe or Barey Poe.

Brendan's life was not untouched by hardship. Over the past few years Brendan battled drug addiction following a severe injury for which he was prescribed OxyContin. As hard as he tried to break free he was unable to do it and on March 7 he lost his life to a heroin overdose.

Brendan is survived by his father, Sean; mother, Barbara; brother, Liam Loughrey; sister, Caitlin Loughrey; his daughter, Ruby Loughrey; niece, Abaigeal Loughrey; nephews, Gabriel Loughrey, Damon Loughrey and Macarius Jones and a large extended family.

In lieu of flowers the family would request that donations be made to Harvest Farm in Wellington, Colorado to help with the work they do helping fight addiction or to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will take place at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 West Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO from 5 until 7 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
