Bonnie Lee Szidon

September 6, 1952 — May 11, 2025

Listen to Obituary
At her home, with her devoted husband at her side, Bonnie Szidon joined her mother in heaven on Mother's Day, May 11, 2025. She was 72 years old.

Parkinson's disease marked the last decades of Bonnie's life, but her determination to live each day to the fullest was an inspiration to all. She never stopped entertaining friends and family, loving to shop and collect beautiful things, planning family reunions, going to concerts, traveling with their dogs in the Airstream, reading, and perfecting their home and yard.

She was a hard worker and a perfectionist; she was a seeker of truth, a philanthropist, a loving wife, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend to many. She was stylish and kindhearted, always genuine and loyal. And Bonnie was fun!

Born in 1952 in Scottsbluff, NE, she spent her earliest years in Lusk, WY, moving to Denver for 6th grade. As she entered 9th grade, the family moved to Fort Collins, and later, she graduated with the class of 1970 from Fort Collins High School.

She attended Temple Buell College in Denver for a year and later received a degree in English from Chadron State College in Chadron, NE.

At a fortuitous 10th-year class reunion, Bonnie and classmate Kim Szidon were reintroduced and began dating. December 24th of that year, they married at the Bixler residence in Fort Collins, CO.

From the early years of their marriage, Bonnie and Kim worked at Ranch-way Feeds, where they rose to management and helped elevate the company to success and regional respect. At her retirement in 2016, Bonnie was President of Ranch-way Feeds, where she and Kim worked together for nearly 30 years. They built strong relationships with customers and employees, considering them family. Bonnie loved Ranch-way and found it difficult to retire.

She served as president of the Fort Collins Junior League, where her focus on uplifting the lives of Women and Children was amplified. She was on the board of the Downtown Development Authority. She gave generously not only encouragement but also substantial donations to the Fort Collins Parkinson's Association, the Humane Society, the CSU Animal Science Department, the Fort Collins Symphony, the Larimer County Food Bank, Respite Care, Animal Friends Alliance, the United Way of the Navajo Nation, and St. Joseph's Indian School.

Bonnie loved all her dogs and kitties, and they loved her. Holly and Hershey are missing her hugs and kisses now.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kim Scot Szidon; her brother, Joe Bixler (Erica Suchman); nephews, Scott (Hannah) and Nolan; niece, Jackie; great-nephew and great-niece, Champion and Bianca; and a lifetime of friends.

Bonnie saw the brightness of everyone and everything.

Bonnie was predeceased by her brother Robert (Bob) and her parents, Charles Kenneth (Kenny) Bixler and Phyllis Bixler. Vic Szidon, Roseann Hyslop Szidon, and brother-in-law Mark Szidon, Grandparents Jack and Bertha Parsons, and Harvey and Delia Bixler.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life for Bonnie, to be held at her home, 863 Grey Rock Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524, on June 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
