Listen to Obituary
Mr. Bobby Guy Herin, age 82, of Fort Collins passed away peacefully at Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital on the morning of Feb. 11, 2009, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Bobby was born in Jackson, Miss., to Reginald and Myra Lee Herin on Aug. 7, 1926. He lived and attended school in Mississippi until the age of 17, when he begged his mother to allow him to answer his calling to join the United States Navy in 1943. He was soon deployed overseas to serve in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He spent three years with the Navy and then joined the United States Air Force, wherein he made his career for the next 20 years. Bobby met and married Miss Jenny May Wright in 1952 in Port Arthur, Texas. She bore him a set of twin boys, followed 11 months later by a daughter, and then another baby boy several years later. The family lived all over the country, including Alaska. Bobby enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, family, friends, good food, and great movies. After wife, Jenny, passed in 1997, in Arizona, Bobby returned to Fort Collins to be near most of his children and grandchildren. For the last four years, Bobby resided at Parkwood Estates where he made many friends. More recently he moved to Rigden Farm where he began to acquire more friends until his illness made him unable to return. Bobby will be much missed by all who knew him. He was an engaging, wonderful man who endeared any who met his acquaintance. He is survived by elder brother, Reginald Buddy Herin of Fort Collins; sons, Michael and John Herin, both of Fort Collins; daughter, Bonnie Barrett of Loveland; son, Richard Herin of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Nickolaus Willbanks, Jeremy Herin, Holly Quesada, Alison Wilson, Zachary Herin, Carly Herin, Michaela Herin, and Jenna Herin, as well as six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Memorial services with military honors, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Timberline Church, Fort Collins, with Pastor John Engle officiating. Cremation and interment will take place in Tucson, Ariz. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Collins Veterans Plaza in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Ft. Collins, CO 80524.
