Blair Allen Kiefer, 81, of Fort Collins died Oct. 6, 2007, in the comfort of his home. Blair was born to Lucille and Nels Martin Kiefer in Graue Woods, Elmhurst, Ill., on Sept. 20, 1926. He attended schools in Illinois and then served two years in the U.S. Marine Corp. After his discharge, he studied at the Chicago Technical Institute. He and Marjorie Summerton were married Jan. 31, 1948. He continued his education at the University of Colorado and then transferred to Colorado State University. Blair founded Kiefer Concrete in 1951 and was also a founder/owner of Poudre Pre-Mix, both of which are in Fort Collins. He was a past president of the American Association of Concrete Contractors, or ASCC; served on the board of directors for the United Bank now Wells Fargo; and was a member of the BPOE and the NRA. He was a pillar of the community and a person on which his many friends knew they could count. Blair helped sponsor CSU athletic games and enjoyed watching basketball and football. One of his brainchildren, the Sail and Saddle Club at Horsetooth Reservoir, was where he enjoyed spending his leisure time. One of his greatest passions was growing hay and driving his beautiful Percheron horses at the Kiefer farm. Blair Kiefer's hay was known as the best in Larimer and surrounding counties. He was a great believer in giving to charities, and he donated to several of his favorites. Blair Kiefer will be remembered by many. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; and children, Susan and husband, Roy Quinnear, of San Diego, Calif.; John and wife, Kirsten, of North Carolina; Jerry and wife, Judy, of Fort Collins; Helen and husband, Stewart Shankel, of Dallas, Texas. His grandchildren include Sarah and husband, Brandon Kouns, Blair Alyssa Kiefer and fianc ¬, Clay Bowman, Lauren, Stewart and Garrett Shankel, and great-grandchild, Isabella Kiefer, daughter of Blair Alyssa. He was also survived by his siblings, De Etta Pope, Marguerite Hauber, Ed Kiefer and Dorothy White. Blair was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Gene, and his daughter, De Etta Jean. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Fort Collins Seventh-day Adventist Church, 502 E. Pitkin St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Children's Clinic, Hospice of Larimer County or the Crossroads Safehouse in Fort Collins in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
