Marjorie "Betty" Harkness Healy, 88, passed away on February 25, 2013 surrounded by her 3 loving daughters. Betty was born June 23, 1924 in Chicago IL to Marjorie and John Harkness. She grew up in Glencoe IL, raised her children in Wilmette IL, and later moved to Ft. Collins CO after the passing of her husband. Following high school, she attended Beloit College where she met the love of her life, John C. Healy. They were married in Boston on January 10, 1945 just weeks before the Navy shipped him to the South Pacific. Their love and devotion for one another flourished for 59 years and beyond, and was an inspiration to us all. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Because of her loving nature and open door policy, she was considered a second mother to many of her children's friends. Her sense of humor and concern for others, comforted countless people over the years. Betty will be remembered for her love of reading, gardening, and for her sharp sense of humor. She was knowledgeable and fascinated with art, antiques, genealogy, as well as, English and American History. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her son, John C. Healy Jr. Survivors include her 3 daughters, Cathy Hofmann Tom, d., of Ft. Collins CO, Nancy Bell Bruce of Snohomish WA, Elizabeth "Petey" Butler Chris of Chicago IL, her daughter-in-law Gretchen Healy Sasakura Russ of Denver CO, her sister Nancy Payne Curt of Colorado Springs CO, her brother-in-law, James Healy Diane of Deerfield IL, and many nieces and nephews. Betty was blessed with 8 grandchildren; Kevin Hofmann, Tessa Marie Healy, John, Jessica, and Andy Bell, Griffen, Callie, and Fiona Butler. A family gathering celebrating Betty's life will be held at a later date in Glencoe IL. Memorial contributions in Betty's honor may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation or a cancer organization of your choice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
