Bertha Sue Poland

April 16, 1931 — December 5, 2025

Listen to Obituary
Bertha Sue Poland, 94, of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025. Sue, as she preferred to be called, was born April 16, 1931, in the small farming community of Thayer, Missouri, in the heart of the Ozarks.

Sue graduated from Harding College with a degree in English, and there she met Jack D. Poland. They married on Christmas Eve, 1952. They were married 69 years before his passing in 2022. They had two children, Robert Poland (Barbara) and Cindy Burnham (Bruce).

Sue's greatest love was God and His Word, and she was a serious student of the Bible her entire life. She was devoted to her family, a great cook (pies were a specialty), gardener and book lover. Whenever we picture her, we will always see her sitting in her chair, book in hand. Sue left a rich legacy and example to us and so many others of hospitality, generosity, kindness and wisdom. All who knew her were blessed and she will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her children, Robert and Cindy, grandchildren: Gene, Holly, Luke & Lauren, plus five great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Jack.

A Celebration of Life is planned for January 3, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Meadowlark Church of Christ. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain States Children's Home c/o Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
