Bernard Herzog

Bernard "Stub" Herzog, 87, of Fort Collins, went home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2008, at Centre Avenue Rehab. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins. Bernard "Stub" Herzog was born on Feb. 15, 1921, to Melvin E. and Anna Herzog in Red Cloud, Neb. The family moved to Hastings, Neb., where he grew up. He served as a 2nd Class Fire Control Man in the U.S. Navy. He married Alma M. Vollweiler on Sept. 25, 1943, in Smith Center, Kan. He moved to Fort Collins in 1955 as an installer/repairman for Mountain Bell where he worked until his retirement in 1982. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason along with being a Scottish Rite Shriner in Hastings, Neb. He was also a member of the Tehama Shrine Temple in Hastings. In his retirement years, after his wife's death, Stub enjoyed playing golf, many pinochle games and dancing for many years with his significant other, Penny. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1987, as well as his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Janet and husband, Dennis of Fort Collins; his beloved Penny; a beloved sister-in-law, in Hastings, Neb., and Alliance, Neb.; two nieces from Lincoln, Neb.; a niece in Alliance, Neb.; a niece from Goodyear, Ariz.; and a nephew from Lincoln, Neb.
