Ben E. Wofford, age 71, died suddenly on July 11, 2009 at Poudre Valley Hospital. His wife, Susan of 28 years was with him along with several wonderful friends. Ben was born in Dallas, Texas, August 16, 1937. He is survived by his daughter Tonja Wofford in Dallas, Texas, and his son Eric Wofford of Clermont, Florida along with six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, his sister Nelma Hampton and Stepson Jeff Fairey of Dallas. He served in the US Air Force Reserve and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Business Administration. He began his career however focusing in his minor studies in engineering by working on the steel detailing for such Texas projects as the North Park Shopping Center, Sears Building, and Arlington Baseball Stadium in the Dallas area, along with Cement Plants in Midlothian, Texas. From there he moved into Management and was Vice President of Manufacturing and Director of Manufacturing for Hesse Envelope and Boise Cascade Envelope respectively. He later opened and operated his own manufacturing company in Dallas until 1984 when he was able to take a two year sabbatical and move to Colorado, where he and his wife worked on building their mountain home together north of Fort Collins. From 1986 thru 1996 Ben was the General Manager for Plainsite Business Systems and Owner of Clear Impressions Printing both of Santa Fe Springs, California. In 1996 he and his wife returned to the home he had built and opened Colorado Business Products which he operated until his death. Ben was a very talented man with many hobbies in which he truly excelled, but his favorite passion was golf. As a young man he began playing in the 1960's and his most exciting game came when he had the opportunity to play with Arnold Palmer in the Dallas Pro AM in 1968. He continued to play golf throughout his life and had wonderful opportunities to play some major courses across the US including Pebble Beach several times. As President of Western Business Systems Association, he presided over many conventions and organized association golf tournaments throughout Southern California, Palm Springs, California, Phoenix, Arizona, Oregon and Vancouver, Canada. On return to Colorado, he joined the Fort Collins Country Club where he was very active, made many friends, and played many wonderful rounds of golf. But most important of his accomplishments is that Ben was a gentleman in a time when they don't come along every day. He was an honest man and a person of integrity. He cared and was loyal to the friends he made and to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that he loved very much. He will be missed by many. A private remembrance event will be held later at the home he loved on the golf green he had set up there. Instead of flowers, his family would like donations be made to the Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation, Pulmonary Rehabilitation in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive Street, Fort Collins, CO 80524. Contributions will go toward Staff Respiratory Education and the purchase of equipment used for patients in respiratory therapy.
