Listen to Obituary
Betty June Trujillo of Fort Collins passed away peacefully at home August 27, 2010 with her family by her side. She was born Beatrice Juanita Maxwell in Timnath, CO on May 5, 1928 to Bill and Opal Barella Maxwell. She was the great granddaughter of famous frontiersman, Lucien B. Maxwell. Betty grew up in Fort Collins and attended Plummer & Holy Family School. As the mother of 11 children and 3 step sons, Betty spent most of her adult life as a full time mother and homemaker but still worked outside their home. Her home was the social center for family activities, full of laughter and a warm and welcoming place for her extended family and friends. The smell of her delicious Mexican cooking always provided a sense of heritage and an inviting place for everyone who entered her home. No stranger in need of food or shelter was ever turned away from her door, but was welcomed and treated as family. Her endearing smile was ever-present, even in times of adversity. She was devoted to her family, encouraged her children, and was blessed with beauty and style. She was like a second mother to an extensive list of nephews and nieces and their friends. You didn't have to be blood relation to feel the warmth and love from "Aunt Betty". Betty loved to sing, dance & listen to music. She and her husband, Luis Trujillo would often sing and entertain, by harmonizing traditional Mexican songs for family, friends & community functions. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She loved animals, and always had pets. She was a loyal fan of the Denver Broncos. She was known to many in our community as "The Burrito Lady", as she would sell her homemade burritos at local businesses and schools. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Ann Maxwell; brother, Dick Maxwell; and first-born child, Francis. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Luis; brother, Bob Maxwell Bonnie and her children; Connie Blanco, Sam Blanco Karen, Bob Blanco, Dave Blanco Janice, Emily Clark Larry, Jo Ann Brooks Brian, Mary Kaltenberger Steve, Michelle Val'Dez, Louise Archibeque, Jim Trujillo, and stepsons, Randy Diana, Gary & Steve Trujillo, and special friend , Lourdes Torres. She will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind, including 28 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Pathways Hospice for their kindness & good care of Betty. To know her was to love her. A Rosary will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Resurrection Fellowship, 6502 E. Crossroads Blvd., Loveland. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
