Listen to Obituary
Beatrice (Bea) Scovie passed away peacefully in her home in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 3, 2016. She was 93 years old.

Beatrice was born in Chicago on January 9, 1923. She was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband of 60 years, John Scovie, who was her childhood sweetheart. They married on April 8, 1946 after he returned home from being a medic in WWII.

Beatrice and John moved to Fort Collins in 1981 to retire near family. She is survived by her son, Richard Scovie of Chicago; daughters, Susan (Steve) Schell of Fort Collins, Colorado and Nancy (Kevin) Burkhart of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Tracy (Terry) Newberry of Greeley, Colorado, and Damon (Christine) Schell of Long Beach, California. She had four great grandchildren, Kasandra (Justin) Hill and Kaidon, Kiera and Kendal Newberry of Greeley, Colorado. In November, Beatrice would have become a great, great, grandmother to Kasandra and Justin's baby boy.

Bea was a devoted wife and mother. Before she was married she worked at Arthur Young and Company (now Ernst and Young) as the secretary to founding partner Arthur Young, and she also worked as a secretary at the Illinois Central Railroad Company. Later in life she worked for many years as a credit manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Chicago. She had a great love for her church, volunteering at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for many years cooking funeral dinners and helping to plan the Christmas fundraising bazaar. For many years she volunteered to cook Sunday dinners at The Mission. She was a devout Catholic and the church meant very much to her. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo, and she was the most reliable bingo player at the local Knights of Columbus Hall.

Bea was also very artistically gifted and creative, and took up making miniatures and miniature rooms in her retirement. She would spend hours hand crafting a single piece of furniture and building themed rooms which were incredible works of art that she gifted to close family and friends, and which will remain treasured heirlooms. While living in Illinois, one of her favorite things to do was visit the Thorne Miniature Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago.

She requested that there be only a quiet family gathering to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers she requested donations be made in her honor to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, to which she sent donations faithfully every month until her death. https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671&sc_icid=wtg-lz-donatenow .
