Barbara Ann Lappin

Barbara Ann Lappin of Fort Collins, Colorado peacefully passed away on May 28, 2013. She was 75. Barbara was born in Tonganoxie, Kansas to Bill and Hazel McGee. Barbara and her sister, Billie grew up in Tonganoxie and were two amazingly beautiful and talented kids. Rex Lappin was very fortunate when he met Barbara and was lucky to be her future husband! Barbara was a great student in Tonganoxie and ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the University of Kansas. While Barbara and Rex both were faithful KU alumni, Barbara also developed a strong allegiance to the Oklahoma State University Cowboys during the years that their daughter, Renee and their son, Michael attended college in Stillwater. That allegiance lived on and it was great fun to watch Barbara OSU and Rex KU have their friendly rivalries, particularly during college basketball season. Barbara maintained a close relationship with Billie who married Tom Marshall and raised their kids Scott, Todd and Andrea in Texas. Renee gave Barbara and Rex two wonderful grand kids, Michael Jay and Joseph Phillip and the family is all thankful that Barbara and Rex also got to spend time with their great grandchild, Mickey. Barbara and Rex raised Renee and Michael in Oklahoma City and Edmond. During the Oklahoma days, they were known as a fun couple and hosted parties that were legendary amongst their families and friends. Barbara was active as a Girl Scout Leader in Oklahoma and influenced many young ladies. Rex worked for Munsingwear in Oklahoma for approximately 25 years and after retirement, Michael talked Barbara and Rex into moving to Fort Collins, Colorado. While in Fort Collins, Barbara returned to her true love of teaching and worked with the Base Camp group. She worked primarily with very young children and specialized in working with those that had special needs. Barbara developed a series of physical problems in her later years but she was always amazingly strong and positive, and was an inspiration to those around her. Barbara and Rex were pet lovers and had a many special dogs over the years including Sundance 1, Sundance 2, Casey, and Cassidy. A memorial service will be held for Barbara at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Guthrie Christian Church, 1802 W Logan Ave in Guthrie, OK 73044.
