Listen to Obituary
Barbara Ann Henre of Douglas, Wyoming passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024.

Barbara was born April 8,1935 in Kansas City, Kansas to Otis Alva Mattox and Mary Pearl Everett. She attended Wyandotte County High School where she met the love of her life – Jim. After high school they both attended Kansas State University.

They were married in 1956 and along with their children, had many great adventures together. Including driving across the country to the 1962 World's Fair in Seattle in a VW bus. They loved to camp, travel and spend time with extended families in Kansas and Iowa.

They moved from Kansas to Colorado to Washington to Iowa and back to Colorado. They spent 15 years in Fort Collins where Barb worked in the lab at the CSU Veterinary Hospital and Jim taught at CSU in the Art Department. During this time, she went back to college and got her bachelor's and master's degrees. They eventually moved on to North Carolina. After Jim passed away, she came back to Fort Collins and went back to work at the Vet Hospital and worked until she was 72!

She spent her last few years living in a tiny house on her daughter Janella's property in Douglas Wyoming overlooking the North Platte River. She loved cats, sewing, needle crafts, playing games (she was the queen of Trivial Pursuit!), singing and listening to music, playing the pump organ and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her brother, Donald A. Mattox, and her beloved husband James Merle Henre.

Barb is survived by her 3 children, Lea Ann Haisch (John) Wellington, CO, David Henre Greenwich, NY and Janella Short (Robert) of Douglas, WY. 7 grandchildren, Alyssa Brake, Buchanan, MI, Brendan Eckley, Wellington, CO, Ryan Marin, Casper, WY, Bry Short, Casper, WY, Patrick Marin, Buchanan, MI, Zoe Short, Edinburgh, Scotland and Isabel Henre, Montpellier, VT.

A celebration of life will be held in the future.
