Barbara A. Bailey passed away peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 96 on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the Sterling House Extended Care Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was born on March 30, 1914 in Cornelius, Oregon, the only daughter of Carrie and Seth Anthony. Her childhood was spent in Canon City, Colorado until she left to attend and graduate from Colorado A&M now C.S.U., in Fort Collins, Colorado. She also, met and married Vernon Dale Bailey in Fort Collins. Barbara lived 14 years in the San Luis Valley in southern Colorado, where she taught Home Economics. Barbara and Dale and their family spent a total of 8 years in the US Foreign Service in El Salvador Central America and Tripoli Libya North Africa, returning to Fort Collins in the mid 50's to buy, build and manage rental properties in the area. She was a long time active member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and played bridge with her group until age 92. Barbara was an avid gardener, a fantastic cook, friend, confidant and mentor to an untold number of young people that crossed her path during her 55 years of living in her home on the corner of Howes and Mulberry streets in Fort Collins. More than anything Barbara was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband.
She was survived by her son, Dan Bailey and his wife, Nancy of Fort Collins; her daughter, Saundra Lear and her husband, Harlan of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; five grand children and 8 great-grand children. According to her wishes she will be cremated at Bohlender Funeral Chapel and a private memorial will be held at a later date. The family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staff at Sterling House of Fort Collins for their thoughtfulness and loving care during Barbara's final year.
