Listen to Obituary
Arthur E. March Jr. passed away on Dec. 17, 2005. A life long resident of Fort Collins, he is survived by a loving family including Claire, his wife of 48 years; three children, Brad and his wife Susan, Meg and her husband Jess and Jennifer and her husband Terry; nine grandchildren and his brother Tom. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur E. March Sr. and Doris March. Born in 1933, Arthur graduated from Fort Collins High School, the University of Colorado and the University of Colorado School of Law. He served in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Captain. He began practicing law with his father Arthur March Sr. in 1959 and continued to be active, representing a broad range of clients, until his retirement in 2001. Over his career he ably represented the City of Fort Collins for more than 20 years, helping to guide the City through both difficult and good times. He helped form the Poudre Fire Authority, the Rawhide Power Authority and following his retirement as City Attorney, the Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority. A 50 year member of Elks Lodge No. 804, he held many officers positions and was active in a variety volunteer sponsored parks projects and fund raising activities, including construction of the City Park Pool and facilities at Edora Park. A devoted Episcopalian, Arthur was active at St. Luke's and St. Andrew's churches, serving as a warden and vestry member for both. He spent a number of years attending classes at Iliff and St Thomas seminaries. He took great pride and spent countless hours devoted to starting and fostering the Education for Ministry class program which provided intensive education for lay ministers serving a number of regional churches. Notwithstanding his many community and professional contributions, Arthur's most important gifts were those he gave to his family. The kindness and respect that defined Arthur March was an example that benefited all who were associated with him. His loving, calm, reassuring, upbeat outlook touched family, friends and community in ways that his humility would never allow him to fully appreciate. A service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, with reception to follow at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the Fort Collins Elks Club. Memorials should be directed to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
