Anna Mary Nelson, best known by her family and friends as 'Ann Nelson' was born August 25, 1918. Ann peacefully departed this life on September 9, 2011 at the Bridge in Longmont, Colorado. She recently had moved to Longmont after living in Fort Collins for over 50 years. She spent the last 7 years in Parkwood Estates Retirement Center participating in a variety of activities and making special friendships with wonderful new dear friends. Ann's smile radiated with her presence and she was loved by all. She loved to play a challenging game of cribbage or canasta, and tried not to miss her bingo nights. Ann was born 93 years ago in Mandan, North Dakota. She met and married Wallace Wally E. Nelson, her life-long sweetheart of 54 years before he preceded her in death. She endured the hardship of waiting for her beloved husband as he fought in WWII and in Korea. Ann, Wallace and their 4 children traveled with the U.S. Army throughout the United States, Japan and Germany. Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Major Wallace E. Nelson, her parents, her brothers and sisters. Ann is survived by her children and their spouses including her daughter, Nora and Sheldon Kortgaard; her son, Wayne and Kathy Nelson; her son, David and Becky Nelson; her daughter, Margot Nelson; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Kortgaard, Kristina Kortgaard, Jennifer Kolar, Mark Post; 7 great-grandchildren, Aspien, Trystin, Jordan, Mason, Paris, Roman, and London. She leaves behind many wonderful nieces, nephews and dear friends. A rosary and visitation will be held at Bohlender Funeral Chapel at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and the interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue, Staging Area "C", Denver at 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. All donations received will be distributed equally to Pathway's Hospice of Larimer County and The Summit Team Hospice Care of Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
