Andy passed suddenly in his sleep in Loveland, Colorado at the age of 69. He went to the Lord way to soon and will be deeply missed by his colleagues and those who loved him.
Andy was born in Bryan, Ohio and his parents eventually moved to Colorado where Andy spent most of his life. Early on as Andy entered his robust teens, his father gave him the "choice" to enter the Navy at a young age. Andy proudly served in Vietnam from 1971 -1974. Upon returning home, a few years later, Andy actually hand-built a home from scratch up on Buckhorn Mountain near Estes Park, Colorado.
Professionally, Andy was truly one-of-a-kind. He was involved in construction and land development most of his life. His construction approach and experience were like none other and will be hard to replace. Andy was extremely intelligent and became the lead estimator at Schmidt's Earth up until 1996. In 1997, he founded Summit Land Management Services which eventually became Land Management Services. He was self-taught on CAD (computer aided design) and over saw and directed complicated land development details and engineering. As his one partner recently said, he could identify a problem before it would happen. Finally, Andy started Land Development Services, Inc. which he owned until he died.
In addition to land development, Andy oversaw all of the development and construction for Hillside Development Group, Inc. He was instrumental in the success of Hillside Commercial Group for over 25 years. Ultimately, Andy played a big part in shaping the land development of Northern Colorado at large.
Andy served as a Board of Director on the Timnath Ranch Metro District, the Windsor Highland Metro District and the Louden Extension Irrigation Company. As a side note, Andy was known for his ability to "really shake up a board meeting with his colorful personality and outspoken nature." Andy definitely had a way with words and could turn intentions and outcomes around quickly.
Along with land development and construction management, he also did all of the land planning for Highland Meadows Golf Course. He completed dozens of projects in Windsor, Timnath, Loveland, Ft. Collins, Berthoud, and most recently worked on Highland Meadows Golf Course, TPC Colorado at Heron Lakes, and Timnath Ranch, naming some of the more recent master planned communities that he built. The amount of work Andy completed is staggering.
Of course Andy was a golf devotee, when he had the time. He once played golf for four days in a row, but he admitted didn't quite survive that fourth day.
It is important to recognize, that Andy developed life-long relationships with two colleagues during his impressive career and they should be mentioned because they are heartbroken that Andy is no longer with us; Jon Turner and family,
and Floyd Danczak and family.
Andy lived a very full and meaningful life. He was a man of deep values and respected those who lived their lives that way. Andy was a very handsome man with a commanding personality and was known for having a fantastic dry sense of humor which was surprising and keen. He brought laughter to all of us who knew him. Andy also had a very "don't mess with me attitude" which was exceptional and quite colorful when you crossed him in the wrong way and his responding actions have been told in many "oh my gawd" stories.
During Colorado winters on the job, you might see Andy donning flip flops and shorts because he was dreaming of being in a swimming pool relaxing somewhere. His fun personality was always at work. Andy worshipped the sun and he most likely was sporting a tan.
Andy was a notorious gun and gadget fanatic. There was always an UPS truck coming to his home with some interesting new gadget to add to his collection. And, as the story goes, a friend, Joy and Andy were at the Bone Fish Grill in Loveland when a man was trying to break into Andy's beloved Mercedes 550. They all walked out towards the car and Andy (conceal carry) drew is pistol down on the guy who promptly froze in space. The poor guy chose the wrong car that day. Joy was not surprised by Andy's actions at all. The hoopla is quite memorable. You just got to love Andy!
Andy and his wife Joy currently live in Borrego Springs, California where they remodeled their retirement home, appropriately located on a golf course. Last summer they had just finished the construction of Andy's dream swimming pool/spa which of course he used with great enthusiasm (swimsuit optional). The home in Borrego was officially named Casa Krilldorf and Andy had a two special custom metal medallions made for the large entry gates showing off the name. He was so proud of his beautiful home. Andy commuted back and forth for business to Colorado but was coming home at Thanksgiving for good.
And, did Andy love his dogs! At one time Andy and Joy had six dogs at home. It was total heaven for Andy. He always talked about Maggie and Widget. He called Widget his lover dog and he was known to give the Widge a Starbucks puppuccino now and then.
Good friends of Andy always looked forward to Christmas time because they'd be receiving a batch of Andy's fabulous cookies. Andy was well-known for cooking hundreds of Christmas cookies, wrapping them up beautifully and mailing or delivering them for Christmas. Sometimes the baking went on for two weeks. It was quite the flour extravaganza. He was very much admired for his chocolate dipped madeleines.
A Christmas enthusiast, Andy also decorated the golf cart up with lights, X-Mas decorations, antlers and a red Rudolph nose. He proudly drove the golf cart around the neighborhood with two dogs sitting next to him. It was a wonderful sight.
Andy's favorite pastime was staying at home floating in the pool, cooking or doing road trips with Joy, sometimes taking the dogs. He loved living in Borrego Springs because it's such a beautiful small town and he could be poolside year round.
It should be acknowledged, that Joy's Mom lived with them and Andy was so kind to her. He was generous and always willing to help out and go the extra mile. Andy often bought policemen and servicemen their lunches. Andy also spent many hours chatting with his one sister being a good brother to her. He had a very kind soul and everyone in the town of Borrego is missing him very much because he made them laugh and smile. He purposely called people the wrong name just to tease them and get a laugh.
Andy was proceeded in death by his parents Max and Louise Krill and daughter Amanda Krill. He is survived by his wife Joy Heckendorf of Borrego Springs, CA and, four sisters; Barbara Lokey (Bill) of Refugio, TX, Deborah Murray of Corinth, TX, Sandra Brickley (Charles) of Tucson, AZ, Wendy Taylor (Keith) of Fort Collins CO, six nieces and three nephews.
Since no farewell words were spoken and his life seems so unfinished, it has been so very hard for his family and friends. We all miss him dearly and we will see him on the other side. Heaven gained a great man.
