Listen to Obituary
On January 22, 2013, Andrea Montoya left this life just as she lived it, with compassion, grace and class. Born in Brownsville, Texas to Ted and Petra Rodriguez in 1927, Andrea was one of seven children and learned the value of hard work, dedication and perseverance at an early age. Upon moving to Fort Collins and meeting Mr. Ray Montoya, the two were married on November 24, 1948. The marriage flourished and of this romantic union came six children that were raised with good cooking, loving words as well as unconditional forgiveness and support. Always strong and dedicated, Andrea worked for Woodward Governor for 25 years until her retirement in 1986. Unable to sit still, Andrea worked alongside Ray at Forney Industries from 1993 to 2000. Always the nurturer, Andrea cared for Ray during his battle with Parkinson's disease until his death in 2008, despite her own Alzheimer's diagnosis. Mom, Grandma, Aunt, Sister – we all have the fondest memories of your smile, your food, your love. Thank you for blessing us with your light. Andrea is survived by: four daughters; Theresa Nunnally and Linda Cleveland of Fort Collins, Margie Joe Espinosa of Greeley, and Andi Fred Hoyt of Aurora; two sons, Juan Montoya of Fort Collins and Mario Kathy Montoya of Salt Lake City, Utah; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; siblings Vera Bradley of Loveland, Hector Rodriguez of Fort Collins and Florence Garcia of Fort Morgan, Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Andrea is preceded in death by: her husband of 60 years, Mr. Ray Montoya; three brothers, Lupe Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez and Tony Rodriguez; two sons-in-law, Anthony Nunnally and Dean Cleveland; one great-grandson, Donovan Espinosa; and her parents. Those who desire may view Mrs. Montoya, Sunday from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins. A Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 12:30 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery, Fort Collins.
