Alpha Jean Bowman passed away at home on the Stegner Farm near La Porte on July 16, 2010. She lived a life dedicated to her family, especially to her four nephews, Gary, John, and Bob Stegner and Lyle Bowman. If there was ever a person who carried the mantle of a "Second Mom," it was Alpha. She was dearly loved by her great nieces and nephews as well as her great-great nieces and nephews. All three generations enjoyed sharing time with her as her sparkling eyes, beautiful smile and contagious laugh were ever present. Many of these young children knew her well and always looked forward to visits with their Auntie Alf. She was born on July 7, 1926 in Logan, Kansas and moved to Fort Collins as a child with her family. Her parents, John and Arline Bowman, as well as three brothers, Jack, Max, and Thomas Bowman preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister and good friend, Elizabeth Stegner, with whom she shared a home for the last several years. The family wishes to especially thank Carrie Garabrandt for the loving care she gave Alpha and the continuing affection and care she provides to her sister, Betty. In addition, the staff at Hospice provided a gracious presence and wonderful support for the family, who cannot thank them enough for their help. Viewing will take place Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. for those who wish to view Alpha at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 531 South College Ave. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
