Listen to Obituary
Allen R. Schnabel of Fort Collins, Colorado was reunited with his loving wife, Lillian on February 22, 2010 when he went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born October 19, 1923 in Eureka, South Dakota to Gottfried and Lydia Schnabel, one of twelve children. He was raised on a farm 10 miles east of Eureka. On April 30, 1944 he married Lillian Schumacher in Eureka, South Dakota and made their home on a farm near Eureka. They were blessed with 6 children. On their farm they raised grains and had dairy cattle. In June 1970 they moved to Fort Collins where they built their new home and resided there for 38 years. January 19, 2008, they moved to the Worthington Independent Living Facility. They were members of Faith Evangelical Free Church, where Allen was an usher for several years. Allen enjoyed walking at the mall, going to cattle sales, and loved family gatherings and visiting with anyone that crossed his path. Allen worked construction, building homes with his brother-in-law, Reinhold Bertsch, upon moving to Fort Collins. Due to health reasons he started a position as maintenance supervisor at Key Bank for about 16 years until his retirement in 1993. For the past 18 months of his life he resided at the North Shore Health Care Facility in Loveland, Colorado. He loved all of the wonderful staff that cared for him and he in return was loved by them. Allen is survived by four sons, Stan Sonja Schnabel of Ashley, North Dakota; Gary Carol Schnabel of Milton-Freewater, Oregon; Les Schnabel of Wellington, Colorado; Myron Sherry Schnabel of Fort Collins, Colorado; and two daughters, Marian Larry Ouret of Loveland, Colorado; and Diana Rick Blaher of Huntsville, Alabama. Also surviving Allen are 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lillian, March 4, 2008; his parents, a daughter-in-law, son-in-law, one sister, and two brothers. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 25, at Faith Evangelical Free Church, 3920 S. Shields, Fort Collins, Colorado. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Collins, Colorado. Viewing will be Wednesday 12:00-7:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
