"I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works;" Revelation 2:19. These characteristics embodied Alice Emmons Foster Murphy who passed from this life on September 21, 2012. She was born March 17, 1917, in Madison, Maine to Luther Henry Foster and Alice Hayes Foster. Alice grew up in Madison where she was raised on the family farm. She had fond memories of those years and that family home. She often recounted stories from her young life on the farm and because there were no photographs of the farm she sketched the family home from memory for her personal history. Graduating from Madison High School in 1934 she went on to work for the Hunnewells tourist home in Lakewood, where she met her husband Luther Byron Murphy. She often said that those were some of her happiest days in life. They were married on May 1, 1939 and settled in Skowhegan, Maine where three children joined their family. She remained in Skowhegan until 2004 after which she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to live the remainder of her days with her daughter and her family. Alice was incredibly talented and gifted and she shared those talents with all she came in contact with. Alice was a talented artist; she drew and painted with oil paints and pastels. She was a gifted seamstress, sewing beautiful clothing and items to decorate her home. She not only sewed for her family but for the public. She knitted and crocheted beautiful pieces that her family is blessed to have. Alice was an excellent and talented homemaker and provided a home filled with comfort and love. Alice also taught herself to play the piano after her mother showed her where middle C was. She went on to serve as the pianist for many years in her church congregation. In 1952 Alice joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She often said that this was the most important decision she had made in her life. This decision allowed her to continue to share her talents and teach others. She served in many capacities in her wards and stake. She served as the Relief Society President for many years, as the Young Women's President, as a teacher in various organizations within the church. She enjoyed traveling to Salt Lake City, Utah in order to attend the churches General Conferences. She had a great love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and strived to share that with others. She was a constant example of a righteous woman. She lived the Gospel to the fullest and always had a prayer in her heart. Her faith, service and diligence were and continue to be an example to her family and those she knew. She touched many lives in her lifetime and each was deeply impacted by her sweet and faithful spirit. Alice was the last remaining member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and three sisters. Her beloved husband, Luther passed away in 1987. She is survived by her sons Lloyd wife Judy Windham, Maine, and Warren wife Nancy Madison, Maine, and their only daughter Ann Macbeth husband Steve Fort Collins, Colorado. Alice has 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great- great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by all, but we take comfort in knowing that she is back with her Savior and those she loves. Funeral services will be held in Fort Collins, Colorado at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1400 Lynwood on September 28th at 11 am. After which she will be returned to her beloved Maine. Services will be held in Skowhegan, Maine at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Malbons Mills Road on October 2nd at 11 am. She will then be laid to rest at the Burial Forest Hills Cemetery in Madison, Maine where she will be laid next to her dearly loved husband and surrounded by her extended family.
