Alfred Robert Fendler was born March 16, 1923 in Petersdorf, Germany to Gertrude Gruner and Robert Fendler, coming to America as a young child. He worked at the side of his father in the family bakery in White Plains, New York, for many years and continued his love for the profession long after he retired. In October 1947 he married Chris Hammerseth and lived in White Plains until he and Chris, moved to Fort Collins in 1988 and found great joy in their life here. Al was active in several groups within his neighborhood association as well as being a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis for several years. He is survived by his wife, Chris; daughter, Janis Fendler of Denver; son, Robert and wife, Barbara of Scarsdale, New York; and one grandson, Robert Eisenstein of Cincinnati, Ohio; his brothers-in-law, Allan Hammerseth and wife, Jean of Jordan, Arkansas, and Richard Harper and wife, Mary Ann of New Bern, North Carolina also survive him. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irmgard Monsees. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at trinity Lutheran Church, 301E. Stuart.
