Albert Edward Al Toms, 98, died Feb. 15, 2007, at Banner Gardens Hospice, Mesa, Ariz. He was born Nov. 4, 1908, Cairo, Iowa, to William E. and Ruth Gledhill Toms. He married Kathleen V. King in Boone, Iowa, on July 24, 1937, who passed away May 6, 1982. Al was involved in banking his entire life and became owner of Mingo Iowa Trust & Savings from which he retired Dec. 31, 1973. He was active in town affairs, church, school, Mason's, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and Banker's associations. He married F. Bernedene McIsaac on Nov. 3, 1988, and they managed Sportsman's Lodge until 1992. During their marriage they traveled to Costa Rica, Hawaii and Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brother, Harry; and sister, Lucille Howell. He leaves wife, Bernedene, "Bernie"; daughter, Virginia Donald Clark, St. Cloud, Minn.; and son, Stephen Holly Toms, Denver; and three grandsons, Jason, Trevor and Satha; two nieces; and two nephews; and six nieces of Bernie's family, each of which has visited the Toms in Arizona and Colorado. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover St. A Celebration of Al's life will follow until 4 p.m. The Rev. Charles Schuster is officiating at the service. A private graveside service will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery.
