Alan J Lesko was born on March 18th, 1957 in South Bend, Indiana and passed away on September 18th, 2026 in Fort Collins, Colorado after a long battle with liposarcoma cancer.
From his early years in South Bend, Al exhibited a sense of adventure and curiosity that would define his life. Growing up his inquisitive spirit was on full display — bicycles, radios, televisions, cars… if it could be disassembled, he was on it (though reassembly wasn’t guaranteed). When Al was 10 the family migrated to Detroit MI which eventually led him to attending the University of Michigan where he earned his electrical engineering degree in 1980 graduating summa cum laude.
Driven by a deep love for the mountains and a longing for discovery, Al ventured west and embraced Colorado as his new home. There, he built a life filled with adventure and family. Al shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife Sandy Lesko and was a devoted father to Alison (Lesko) Skoglund, father-in-law to Kade Skoglund and grandfather to Emery Skoglund.
His professional path carried him through engineering positions at Hewlett Packard, Ford Motor CO, Agilent and Keysight Technologies where he formed bonds that lasted a lifetime.
Al cherished spending time with family. Alongside his wife Sandy and daughter Alison, he treasured family vacations to Florida, Michigan, and California, and loved exploring the Rocky Mountains through hiking and mountain biking. He also found joy in global travel, believing deeply in the value of experiencing different cultures and perspectives.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Alex Lesko and Ann Lesko, and survived by his wife Sandy Lesko, daughter Alison Skoglund, son-in-law Kade Skoglund, granddaughter Emery Skoglund and beloved sisters Joan (Don) Dillon, Carol Lesko Jordon, Janet (Steve) Agee, brother Dr. John (Elaine) Lesko, as well as many nieces and nephews, and beloved mother-in-law Betty Meyer.
Al will be remembered for his love of learning, adventurous spirit and big heart. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, curiosity and connection that will live on in all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, September 28th, 2026 at 11am, at The Drake Centre, 802 W Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
