Valerio Ernesto "Ernie" Miranda passed away on February 26, 2014 at McKee Hospice Center in Loveland, CO. He was born February 6, 1930 in Fort Collins, CO to Ernesto and Carolina Miranda. He attended Holy Family Catholic School, Lincoln Jr. High, and Fort Collins High School. He lived in Fort Collins all of his life. Ernie married Juliana "Jay" Martinez on January 12, 1957. He worked construction most of his life but also owned a bail bondsman service for a few years. He enjoyed boxing, the Denver Broncos, and the Colorado Rockies. Ernie was a boxer in the 1940's with the Fort Collins boxing team and was a golden gloves champ in 1948. He was a member of numerous committees that involved the Chicano community. He is survived by his wife, Jay; sons, Ernest Jay, and Jeffrey Miranda; daughters, Maxine Miranda, Nancy Romero, Valerie Castillon Elias, Jr., Laura Salas, and Carolina GonzalesTomas, all of Fort Collins; brothers, John Miranda of Fort Collins CO, and Carlos "Mike' Miranda of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Lucy Creech of Bradenton, FL, Elsie King of Sterling Heights, MI, Carmen Benevidez of San Jose, CA, Frances Hernandez of Fort Collins, Susan Miranda of Carlsbad, CA, Ester Bain of Troy, MO, and Consuelo Rock of Anchorage, AK; 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Ernesto and mother, Carolina Miranda, brothers, Frank, Augestine, Tony, Ruben, Miranda and sister, Irene Jenero. Memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Fort Collins, Colorado 80524. Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Holy Family Catholic Church with a reception following at North Side Aztlan Center. Those who desire may view Mr. Miranda, Sunday, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
