    Thomas Robert Kasari

    December 26, 1952 - May 17, 2021

    Thomas (Tom) Kasari of Fort Collins, Colorado passed away on May 17, 2021 at the age of 68. Tom was born in Oregon to Robert and Mildred Kasari. He is survived by his loving wife Ellen, his mother Mildred, and siblings Kay DeLeon (Rickey), Connie Kasari, Brent Kasari (Heather) and numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was predeceased by his father Robert (Bob) Kasari. Tom attended Oregon State University before attending veterinary school at Colorado State University. He graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1979 and worked in mixed- animal veterinary practices in western Nebraska and southeastern Oregon. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada. After completing his work in Canada, Tom accepted a teaching position at Oregon State University Veterinary School before moving to Texas where he spent nearly 20 years as a food animal internal medicine specialist teaching large animal clinical medicine at Texas A&M University. It was there he met Ellen, the love of his life. While living in Texas, Tom and Ellen owned and operated a purebred Salers beef cattle operation. He is a past president of the American Salers Association and the American Bralers Association. In 2004, the Kasari’s moved to northern Colorado where Tom spent the rest of his veterinary career working as an epidemiologist for the USDA - APHIS Veterinary Services. He retired at the end of 2018 and focused on his hobbies of woodworking and upland bird hunting with his hunting dogs and friends. He loved spending time in the outdoors, watching sports, cooking, and traveling. He was well known by family, friends and colleagues for his annual Texas style barbecues. Tom was a man of faith and served as an usher at Redeemer Lutheran for many years. A memorial will be held on May 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Collins. A second memorial service will be held in Texas for internment in June. Any memorial contributions in Tom’s honor may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
