October 11, 1971 - December 26, 2020
Steven A. Juhlin passed away peacefully in hospice care on the evening of December 26, 2020. He fought an amazing and heroic 2-year and 8-month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme. His smile and positivity during this time were true testaments to his incredible spirit. Steve was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Morey and Shirley Juhlin. His family moved to Johnston, Iowa, where he graduated as valedictorian from Johnston High School. He truly valued all of the wonderful and lifelong friends he made in Johnston. After graduating high school, he attended Iowa State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He also joined Army ROTC, and went on to achieve the rank of Captain. His time in the military and at Iowa State created many more lifelong friendships. Shortly after graduating, he met the love of his life, Wendy. They have two amazing children: Robert (Thor) and Caroline (Lena). Steve went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, and a second Master’s Degree in Business Administration. Steve’s career took him around the country, and the family eventually found their permanent home in Colorado, where he made many more lifelong friends. At the time of his diagnosis, Steve was working for the Federal Government at the Bureau of Reclamation. The support he received from his co-workers was inspiring to all of his family. Steve is survived by his loving family and friends, who meant everything to him. In addition to his wife, parents, and children, he is survived by sister Nancy (husband Andy), brother Randy (wife Joanie), Gary and Sharon (in-laws), sister-in-law Jill (husband Tim), brother-in-law JJ (wife Kristi), niece Meghan, nephews Matt, Jonathan, Luke, and Matthew. In addition, he is survived by amazing and supportive aunts and uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers to celebrate his life, the family wishes any tributes be made to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. The Mayo Clinic enrolled Steve in a clinical trial when he was at the end of conventional treatment, and successfully extended the length and quality of his life. In addition, the family would like to thank the loving care provided by his physicians, the staff at UCHealth, the staff at The Center at Rock Creek, and Pathways hospice.
