Rodney Alan Broughton
July 3, 1948 - April 1, 2022
On April 1, 2022, Rod Broughton, 73, went home to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Oak Park, IL; grew up in Arvada, CO, and graduated from West Side High School in Omaha, NE. He attended the University of Colorado, then joined the US Navy, serving his country in Vietnam in 1969-1970, before finishing his B.S. Business at CU. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Hull, and raised their two children, Ryan and Kim, in Loveland, CO. Rod had a successful CPA practice in Loveland for 40 years before cancer forced him to retire in 2020. He loved his family with a passion. He was a constant encourager of Kay’s many musical endeavors, especially the choir at Faith Church. He inspired and cheered his children and grandchildren in their academic and athletic pursuits. He loved to travel and was never short on ideas for adventures with his family! Rod loved hunting, golfing, catching fish, and playing cards, and cherished the many friendships that were fostered in these ventures. The Colorado Rocky Mountains, “God’s country” as he referred to them, brought him energy, joy and peace. He enjoyed exploring new microbreweries but never wandered far from his favorites, and always with Kay and a cribbage board. He credits much of his professional development to Toastmasters International. His laugh was infectious and his loyalty and integrity were genuine. Rod is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Ryan (Kristin) and Kim (Jody Casey); grandchildren, Ty, Aubrey, MacIntyre and Gunner Broughton; brother, Jim Broughton; sister-in-law, Sue Hull; cousin, Sheryl Kindl and many nieces and one nephew. A celebration of Rod’s life will be held at Loveland’s Faith Church Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Faith Church, or a charity of your choice.
