    Harold E. Bowyer

    December 7, 1924 - July 20, 2019

Harold Ernest Bowyer was born on December 7, 1924 in Yankton, South Dakota, the second son of Hatti and Harold (Bud) Bowyer. He grew up on the banks of the Missouri river and he loved to swim. He enlisted in the Navy and served as a signalman in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he found out that at one point he and two of his brothers were in the same theater of action. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Yankton College and was a member of the football and track teams. He held the Yankton College shotput record for many years. He met his future wife Shirley on the steps of the library at the University of Northern Colorado where he was pursuing his master’s degree. They were married on December 30, 1951 and moved to a small town in California where they both taught school. Shirley and Harold had their first two children, Susan and Doug, in California and then moved back to Colorado where their third child, David, was born. At that time, Harold started his own business as a brick and stone mason continuing a family tradition of many generations. He loved his work and continued going to the job into his 80’s. Harold trusted Jesus as his savior early in their marriage. Church was a very important part of Harold and Shirley’s life, and he had many fond memories of all of his church friends. Harold and Shirley enjoyed watching sports together. They also loved watching old movies, especially musicals. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Darrell, RJ, and Dale and his wife Shirley. He is survived by his brother, Bill Bowyer, daughter, Susan Wilhelm and her husband John of Torrington, Wyoming; a son, Doug and his wife Dawn from Windsor, Colorado; another son, David, from Windsor; nine grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
